Workplace Wellbeing is Crucial for Staff Retention

Workplace wellbeing is crucial for staff retention. A workplace culture that fosters staff loyalty and high morale is likely to keep staff for longer and reduce recruitment costs. Staff who feel their wellbeing needs are being met are less likely to take sick leave and are more likely to return from leave taken in a timely and sustainable way. Businesses that truly champion mental health and staff wellbeing will be able to attract and retain talent, which will benefit both individuals and the organisation.

In fact, two-fifths (39 per cent) of employees across the economy have cited a decline in their mental health as a result of their employer not supporting their wellbeing during the pandemic, leading 30 per cent of respondents to search for a new job and a quarter to become less productive 2.

Ultimately, all good staffing strategies are underpinned by robust efforts to develop and retain existing team members. Providing the right support is key. While the importance of staff wellbeing is on the rise, there is still no denying that certain sectors could use some help and it can be felt acutely in areas of hospitality and frontline workers.
